Dr. Boren
The former owner of World Class Pianos on Burlingame Avenue and a retired classical concert pianist and university professor, Dr. Benjamin Boren now brings his exacting standards to the piano tuning profession, offering services to clients in San Mateo County, Santa Clara County, San Francisco, and Fremont.
During his time as owner of World Class Pianos, Boren gained extensive experience tuning, voicing, regulating, prepping, and troubleshooting on many of the world’s best pianos, including Steinway, Mason & Hamlin, Bösendorfer, Petrof, Sauter, Schimmel, Seiler, Estonia, Yamaha, Kawai, and many others.
Boren is certified by the American School of Piano Tuning, is a member of the Piano Technician’s Guild (PTG), and was mentored by one of the Bay Area’s most sought-after piano technicians of the past 40 years.
Boren was was drawn into the piano retail business in 2014 by Joseph Brattesani, founder of World Class Pianos, through visiting the store to write a review on a newly designed line of Petrof grand pianos for the Pianobuyer publication. As owner of World Class Pianos from 2017-2024, Boren continued the store’s legacy of award-winning sales of new pianos by Mason & Hamlin and Petrof, sourced high-end preowned pianos by American and European brands, brought in high-end restorations of Steinway pianos from Europe, and cultivated a national clientele through his Youtube demonstration videos.
As a pianist, Boren performed extensively throughout North America and China as both a soloist and collaborator. His 2012 solo recording Benjamin Boren Plays Carl Vine was met with critical acclaim. Some of Boren’s performances can be seen on his Youtube channel.
As a teacher, Boren had a worldwide base, working with students both in-person and online. Boren formerly served as Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at California State University Stanislaus.
An Indiana native, Boren holds a DM in Piano from the Indiana University Jacob’s School of Music, where he studied with Andre Watts. He also holds an MM in Piano from Indiana University and a BM in Piano Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, studying with Evelyne Brancart and William Black, respectively.
Boren lives in Burlingame with his wife and two daughters.
